Chinomakwa Nani FC Secures Historic First Victory

Bindura, Zimbabwe – The air was electric at Hermann Gmeiner this past Saturday (7 June 2025) as Chinomakwa Nani FC, a team considered underdogs, etched their name into the club’s history books with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Gazza XI on Match Day 1. For a squad still finding its feet in the ZIFA Women's Mashonaland Central Division Two League (D2A), this wasn’t just a win—it was proof that belief, teamwork, and a little bit of grit can make dreams a reality.

A Goal to Remember
The match’s lone goal came in the first half, courtesy of Tanatswa Dzapasi, the team’s relentless right midfielder. After a series of well-worked passes, Dzapasi found herself in the perfect spot to slot the ball home, sending the bench—and the handful of passionate fans in attendance—into pure delirium.
"I still can’t believe it," Dzapasi said after the match, grinning from ear to ear. "We’ve worked so hard for this moment. Hearing our supporters cheer… it’s something I’ll never forget."

Defensive Wall & A (Very Bored) Goalkeeper
While the attackers grabbed the headlines, the real heroes might have been the backline, who put on a defensive masterclass. Tinomudaishe Singe and Pride Mutsokota were like brick walls at center-back, snuffing out every Gazza XI attack before it even got dangerous.

And then there was goalkeeper Ropafadzo Manuere, who had so little to do that teammates joked she could’ve brought a sleeping bag to the pitch. "I’m not complaining!" she laughed post-match. "A clean sheet is a clean sheet!"

Young Blood Shining Bright
What made this victory even sweeter was seeing the club’s academy graduates step up when it mattered most. Nenyasha Clara Lupiya, just 9 years old, was a rock at right-back, while Pretty Nyandoro caused havoc on the left wing and she is just 8 years old. Their performances proved that the club’s investment in youth is paying off.

"Seeing our young players shine like this… it’s emotional," said head coach Anesu Godo. "This win isn’t just for us—it’s for every girl in Bindura who dreams of playing football."

A Second Half of Nerves & Nearly Misses
Gazza XI pushed hard after the break, but Chinomakwa Nani held firm. Substitutes like Beatrice, who took over the captain’s armband, nearly doubled the lead with a thunderous short-range strike that forced a brilliant save.

As the final whistle blew, tears, hugs, and chants of “Chinomakwa Nani! Chinomakwa Nani!” filled the ground. For a team that’s been building up young players, the victory wasn’t just about the three points—it was about proving they belong.

What’s Next?
With confidence sky-high, the squad now turns its attention to the next challenge. If this performance was anything to go by, this might just be the beginning of something special.
