Against All Odds! Another Away Win at BPPS
BPPS Ground – In a match filled with drama, controversy, and sheer resilience, Chinomakwa Nani FC secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over BPPS Queens on their home turf. A second-half penalty from Chiswa (Mai Taylor) sealed the three points after a first half of missed chances and a bizarre twist of fate.
The win did not come easily. With a squad depleted due to the holiday season, this was far from our strongest lineup. Yet, the players who took to the field embodied the true fighting spirit of Chinomakwa Nani, proving that heart can outweigh circumstance.
The Rollercoaster of Drama
The match was decided from the penalty spot—not once, but twice.
First Half: Our defender, Blessing, stepped up for a penalty but was unable to convert, keeping the scores level and setting up a tense second half.
Second Half: In a moment that stunned everyone, the referee pointed to the spot after ruling a BPPS defender had illegally handled the ball in the area. The decision was so unexpected that both coaches admitted they saw nothing, leaving the home crowd in an uproar.
Amid the confusion, Chiswa (Mai Taylor) held her nerve. With ice in her veins, she stepped up and buried the penalty, securing a priceless away win for the red and black.
Beyond the Scoreline: Standing Up for Our Stars
Unfortunately, the football was sometimes overshadowed by ugly sidelines accusations. For the second time this season, our brilliant 8-year-old academy star, Pretty Nyandoro, was subjected to baseless claims about her gender after executing a sublime piece of skill.
This is unacceptable. Pretty is a talented, dedicated, and inspiring young girl who plays football with passion and joy. These accusations are a stain on the beautiful game and a disrespect to her and our club. We stand proudly with Pretty and all our young female athletes.
A Win of Character
Coach Anesu Godo was bursting with pride, not just for the points, but for the character shown:
"This was a test of our depth and our spirit. With many players away, those on the pitch had to dig deep. They fought for every ball, supported each other through the controversy, and never gave up. A clean sheet and a win under these conditions? I am incredibly proud. This is the Chinomakwa Nani heart I love to see."
This victory is a testament to our squad's depth and mental fortitude. Well done, girls!
