A Day of Waiting...
Chinomakwa Nani FC Awarded 3 Points After Opponent No-Show
It was a day of mixed emotions at Hermann Gmeiner Primary School today. Our girls, as you can see from the picture, were warmed up, in high spirits, and fully prepared to battle it out on the pitch for our rescheduled Matchday 2 fixture. Unfortunately, the anticipated match against Batanai Queens did not happen.
The day began with a show of good faith. The kickoff time was moved from the originally scheduled 9 AM to 11 AM. This change was mutually agreed upon to allow both clubs to field their junior boys' teams, who also had important league games this morning. We were looking forward to a great day of community football.
However, as the 11 AM kickoff time came and went, there was no sign of our opponents. Our players waited patiently on the pitch, ready to compete. We began trying to contact the Batanai Queens coaching staff, but from 11 AM until midday, their phones were switched off.
The match official was prepared to call the game off around 11:45 AM, but in the spirit of sportsmanship, we insisted on waiting longer, hoping for their arrival.
Finally, at 12:00 PM, contact was made, but with a coach responsible for their junior team, not Coach Diver, who is in charge of the girls' team and remained unreachable. After another half an hour of patiently waiting, and with no sign of the away team, we had to agree with the referee's final decision. At 12:30 PM, the match was officially called off.
While this is not the way anyone wants to win a football match, the official result is a walkover in favour of Chinomakwa Nani FC. According to league rules, we will be automatically awarded 3 points and a 3-0 victory.
We are incredibly disappointed for our players who were denied the chance to earn the victory on the field, and for our wonderful fans who came out to support us. Your dedication does not go unnoticed.
We commend our team for their professionalism and patience throughout the long wait. We will take these three points and shift our focus to the next challenge, where we hope to showcase our passion and skill on the pitch.
Thank you for your continued support.
